Project Description
DeBruin created topographic maps and plotted all existing utilities for this bridge approach project in Lawrence, NY. This bridge is one of only three ways on and off Long Beach Island, a busy residential beach community on Long Island. Before we even begin field work on any mapping job, we perform extensive utility research, by first contacting the one-call center for a list of registered utility owners in the project area. Then we request record plans and utility mark outs from each utility. We pick up the mark outs with the rest of the topographic features. On this project, we located all the concrete panel joints and curb joints in addition to the topographic features that are typically picked up. We adjusted our shot code system to minimize time spent in the highway which is traveled at high speeds. After creating the base maps with utilities, we handed the CAD drawings off to our design team who is currently designing road and drainage improvements.
