Project Description |

| Our capabilities enabled us to complete this fiber optic mapping and design project from start to finish using a systematic, quality controlled, fully computerized process with Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Our work began with digital orthophoto base maps to which we added streets and buildings. Our crews then took this data to the field to collect all pertinent utility data through the use of PDAs, laptops, and Laptops. All data collected in the field was synchronized with our Enterprise Level Geodatabase at the end of each work day and stored in GIS. We then confirmed the data in the office by examining digital copies of Verizon’s cable plats and conduit sheets that are directly linked to the GIS. We developed a great deal of custom GIS software which enabled us to excel when it came time to complete design work. Our program automatically queries data which makes it simple to design the fiber optic cables. Once the cable routes are entered, the program automatically computes design features such as fiber counts and cable labels and checks every aspect of the data’s integrity. Drafting work was originally completed in office through the use of Microsoft Visio, but we have since devised a system to generate comprehensive maps and tabular reports that are used by our subcontractors for posting to Verizon’s Intelligent Computer Graphics System (ICGS). Verizon managers can then obtain the final product through their online system with a simple button push. | |||
