Project Description |
|||
| DeBruin has been performing hydrographic and upland surveys for the US Army Corps of Engineers since 1993. This project included topographic mapping, hydrographic mapping, and wetlands mapping of 8 areas, a total of 400 acres surrounding Jamaica Bay, which is eight miles across. We started by bringing 51 horizontal and vertical control points onto the sites using RTK GPS methods. Differential broadcasts were accomplished via cellular phone connections where the distances covered were too far for the radio braodcast. All control points were set and referenced and reference diagrams were created. Bench runs were done at each site to ensure consistent elevations across the site. Extremely dense foliage required innovative methods to accomplish these tasks. Total stations were used in areas where the tree cover was too dense for GPS signal reception. All data was delivered in digital format and hardcopy format. | |||
