Project Description
On this project, the goal was to set 96 profile control points, one approximately every 1000’, along 21 miles of beach which were used by the Army Corps of Engineers to survey beach profiles. DeBruin began by recovering the primary control traverse that was set earlier by another surveyor. DeBruin then set and sketched our profile control points. The diagrams were drafted in CAD and exported to jpeg files. We created an Access database that merged the jpeg files with point data to automatically produce the reference diagrams. We used Rapid Static GPS methods to occupy both the primary control points and our profile points to establish coordinates on the profile points. Each night the field party solved the GPS ambiguities and balanced the coordinates of the profile points to the primary control traverse points. Deliverables included CAD files with the point locations; metadata; and a survey report with sections for point lists, control reference diagrams, field notes, and photographs.
