Project Description
On January 17th 2006, a representative from Suffolk County DPW Waterways called to see if DeBruin would be available to survey Mt. Sinai Harbor within one week. The purpose of the survey was to collect sounding and design dredge volumes and limits. We accepted the challenge and immediately put our hydrographic survey team into action. We used our Innerspace 455XPe Survey Depth Sounder configured with our Leica survey grade GPS and Hypack software. The depth sounder records the water depth. The GPS records the boat elevation. The Hypack software collects the data and performs the calculations to report soundings or elevations in the appropriate datum. Back in the office, the data was imported into CAD where we used InRoads engineering software to calculate the dredge limits and volumes. All this was completed within one week. We were then asked to produce construction plans, stake out the dredge limits, and perform a post-dredge survey, all of which was done in conjunction with the construction and in a matter of weeks.
