Project Description
We were hired by the Town Department of Engineering to upgrade them from an old fashioned manual survey process to modern field equipment and CAD/Design software. Their existing process used transits and tape in the field, manual ink drafting on mylar in the office.
Our work began with a study of their existing processes and equipment. We then researched current state-of-the-art equipment for both hardware and software in the field and office. We prepared recommendations with options, reviewed the scope with the client, and then assisted in purchasing. The entire system, while coming from multiple vendors, was designed to work together as a complete package. It included a robotic totaol station with data collection, Microstation CAD licenses, InRoads Survey for data reduction, StarPlus software for network adjustments, and InRoads for Civil design.
As the hardware and software arrived, we installed and set it up, then trained Town personnel in its use. Since we are also in the surveying and CAD business ourselves, much of the equipment and software was the same or similar to what we used in our firm. This allowed us to provide the Town staff with many of our own in-house developed checklists, utility programs, and processes for executing the work in an efficient and high quality manner. We arranged for basic training by the equipment and software vendors, followed by procedural training from our staff.
We continue to visit the Town on a weekly basis to keep them up to date, review their processes, and provide as-needed technical support.
